Finish setting up a new production
The Initial Setup wizard walks a new production through its plan, its script or episodes, your department, your team and billing — and every step of it can be skipped and done later.
Creating a production takes a moment. Setting it up takes a little longer, and SceneMatch offers to walk you through it: after a production is created, the Initial Setup wizard runs.
It exists because the things it covers are easy to forget and awkward to discover later — particularly which department you are in, which quietly decides what you can see.
The steps
Which steps appear depends on what you are making:
- Title — what the production is called.
- Plan — the storage plan for this production. Skipped when the production is covered by a subscription someone else manages.
- Episodes — seasons only. Create the season's episodes up front.
- Script — feature films only. Import the screenplay and get your scenes and characters built for you.
- You — which department you are in.
- Team — invite the rest of the crew.
- Billing — your billing details. Skipped alongside Plan on a managed subscription.
So a feature film gets a Script step and no Episodes step; a season gets the reverse. That is the type decision from creating a production showing up in the setup.
Nothing here is a one-time chance
Every step can be skipped, and everything it does is reachable afterwards from the production itself: import the script from the Script section, invite people from the Team page, change the plan from Billing.
The wizard is a convenience, not a gate. Skipping it does not leave the production in a half-configured state — it leaves it in exactly the state it would be in if you had never been offered the wizard.
The step worth not skipping
Choose your own department.
It is the least obviously consequential step and the most quietly important. Your department decides which parts of the production you can see and edit if the production keeps departments apart — and the person setting up a production is usually the one who least expects to be restricted by it.

The thing that is not obvious
The wizard is per production, not per account. Every new production offers it again, including the second one you create in an afternoon.
That is right — the plan, the script and the team are all production-level decisions — but it does mean the setup you did last time is not carried forward. The one thing that is carried between productions in the same series is a returning season's cast and wardrobe, and that happens at screenplay import rather than here.
